Horse OK after sinkhole scare

It took about a dozen people using "sheer force" to get the horse out of the mess in the woods off Cornstalk Road in Spring Valley Township, according to Capt. Shawn Prall of the Greene County Sheriff's Office.

Small newsrooms of today

It's not a complaint, it's a fact - the newsroom is one-third the size it was 20 plus years ago. When I started as a reporter at the Xenia Daily Gazette in 1995, right out of Wright State University, the 13 full-time staff and approximately 10 freelancers had one daily newspaper to worry about.

Greene County Fair royalty crowned -

Poise, personality and participation - these were some of the traits the judges were seeking in the 2018 Greene County Fair Royalty. Janine Stover, 16, of Xenia, was crowned queen; Nicholas Shaw, 17, of Jamestown, was crowned king; Frankie Travis, 14, of Jamestown, was crowned princess and Gunnar Gannon, 13, of Cedarville was crowned prince.

A visit with the Smith twins

Recently I chatted with Everett Smith and his sister Evelyn Smith who may be the oldest living twins in Greene County. They were born June 15, 1923, so are now 95. Evelyn says she is the eldest by about 13 minutes.

Spring Valley Farms' Clubhouse Recommended

Construction of a 2,696-square-foot clubhouse to be used solely by occupants of the Spring Valley Farms housing community on Bliem Road received approval Monday night from the Lower Pottsgrove Planning Commission . However, the project can move ahead only if it also wins zoning relief from the township Zoning Hearing Board , planners added.
